Melbourne: Restorative Practices 2 Day Training: May

Join us in Melbourne on May 1st and May 2nd for a transformative two-day training experience in Restorative Practices with Kerrie Sellen and Restorative Journeys.

Restorative Journeys unique, in-depth restorative framework redefines how we understand and manage relationships and conflict, making this not your typical restorative practices training. This approach goes beyond traditional methods by integrating insights into the biology behind relationships, language, conflict, and our responses to them.

In this restorative training, you’ll learn why “conflict is normal, but combat is optional” and how understanding this, while using the explicit framework, helps prevent harm, foster growth, and build lasting connections. Restorative Journeys explicit restorative framework equips you with practical tools to repair, build, and maintain strong, connected relationships and communities, both personally and professionally. These actionable tools will empower you to start creating positive change from Day 1.

Using a Restorative Practice Framework
This approach allows participants to create supportive conditions that encourage others to:

  • Make sense and meaning of where they are at and how they got there.
  • Work out what matters and what’s important.
  • Identify what needs to change and understand their role in that change.
  • Build and sustain healthy relationships.

  • Explicit Framework for Conflict Resolution – Gain a step-by-step framework to navigate conflict without blame or shame, focusing on growth and mutual respect.

  • Building Stronger Relationships – Through the ‘With’ approach, learn practical steps to support others, setting high expectations with high support. Practice creating a culture where mistakes become learning moments, not reasons for shame.
  • Practice Domains in Relationships – Explore key relationship-building domains, focusing on how each domain supports the development of strong, connected teams.
  • Compass of Shame and Empathy – Dive into the Compass of Shame, learning how to support individuals through shame responses without causing harm.
  • Creating Pathways for Repair – Gain advanced skills to facilitate conversations that repair harm and build learning opportunities for change.

Experiential Training with Restorative Circles
On Day 2, participants engage in experiential training that brings theory into practice through the use of restorative circles—a core element of the Restorative Practices framework. Restorative Journeys training team will demonstrate how to use affective language within circles to guide conversations, providing a model for repairing and strengthening relationships.

  • Circles – Participants will learn to facilitate group discussions in a circle format, creating an environment that encourages full participation and meaningful conversation. Through video, hands-on practice, and discussion, you’ll discover reliable methods for using circles to address relationship and behavioural concerns and to build a sense of community.
